Separation of Gamma and Proton Showers ( 1 104 TeV ) using the Lateral Distribution of
نویسندگان
چکیده
A simulation of the development of and hadron showers in the energy range 1 ? 10 4 TeV has been carried out. Radial distributions of the Cerenkov light detected at observatory depths ranging from 500 to 1000 g=cm 2 have been studied. Capabilities of the angle integrating Cerenkov technique for separation of and proton initiated showers as a function of the observation altitude are discussed.

An investigation of using hump in the Cherenkov photon lateral distribution for Gamma-Hadron separation
Simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100GeV- 25TeV has been carried out. For a big ideal Cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density have been studied. Results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real TUNKA- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...
متن کاملA study on the lateral distribution of Cherenkov light in extensive air showers
The dependence of the lateral distribution of Cherenkov light in simulated extensive air showers to the energy and the mass of the primary cosmic rays has been studied. It has been shown that a previous claim about mass independent proportionality of shower energy to the total Cherenkov photon number is not valid in energies below EEAS ~ 1014 eV. We have found that the core distance of the so c...

Energetic secondary particles in gamma and hadron initiated showers can generate Cherenkov photons. Using CORSIKA code and simulation data, different characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density are studied. In particular, physical origin of these differences and also dependence of this distribution on primary energy and altitude of observation level are discussed. It is ...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Study of the Arrival Time Distribution of Particles in Extensive Air Showers in the Energy Range 1–100 TeV
A detailed simulation of vertical showers in atmosphere produced by primary gammas and protons, in the energy range 1–100 TeV, has been performed by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo code, with the aim of studying the time structure of the shower front at different detector heights. It turns out that the time delay distribution can be fitted using few parameters coincident with the distribution ce...

Using measured events from the fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory, an unbiased distribution of the atmospheric slant depths where showers reach their maxima has been obtained. Analyzing the tail of this distribution the proton-air cross-section for particle production at center-of-mass energies per nucleon of 57 TeV is determined to be [505±22(stat)+28−36(syst)] mb. Systemati...
